Barcelona is preparing for life without star Lionel Messi, according to club's president Josep Maria Bartomeu. The Argentine's contract with the Catalans is set to expire in the summer of 2021 and Bartomeu says he has plans in place to replace Messi when he retires.
“I know one day Lionel will say he’s retiring. We have to prepare the club for the future. We are bringing great young players to the team because we need to continue this era of success. That’s our responsibility," he said.
”My mandate will be finished in two seasons. So I need to leave the club in a great position and tell the new president ‘that’s our legacy’.”
The club has already brought in young players including Malcom, Ousmane Dembele, Arthur, Frenkie de Jong and Jean-Clair Todibo with an eye for the future.
